Description
One audio cassette. Born in the Everglades and 74 years old at the time of the interview, Jimmie (through interpreter Jumper) discusses designing and making Seminole skirts and other garmets. Jimmie describes the Seminole words for "design," "skirt" and "top," and talks about the cross design on her skirt, other types of skirt designs, sewing with strips of colorful cloth, rick-rac, teaching her children and grandchildren the craft, and men in the tribe who sew, like Jimmie Osceola. In addition, she discusses the Green Corn Dance, playing the stickball game, women hunters, gardening, singing Christian songs, learning to sew from her mother, and living in a chickee.

Description
Two audio cassettes. Presentation at the Bartow Public Library, in connection with the Pursuits and Pastimes exhibit, on Florida ranching. Folklorist Dyen began with a history of Florida cattle ranching, including fence laws, cowboy music (including songs by Bob Tinsley), stories (including recording of Bone Mizell story by Frog Smith), brands, and tools used. Cauley, a saddle maker, talks about saddles and their construction. He discusses tools and materials used, types and uses of saddles, as well as the life of a cowman, the use of dogs, and the clothing and tools used in the profession.

Eighty-one color slides. Images of Wakulla Springs boat drivers. Glass bottom boat tour over the deep springs had been going on since the late 1800s. Many of these drivers are descendents of those early drivers, and provide some of the same folk tales. One tale/feature was Henry the Pole Vaulting Fish, a bass fish that jumped over a pole (actually scratching its gills). The springs was developed as a tourist attraction in the 1930s (and became a Florida state park in 1987.) Drivers pictured: George Bower(640-657, 813-814); Jackson (765-781); Moretz (784-785); and Gavin (790-793). Henry the fish pictured in 759-763, 781. Also includes are images of the river, alligators, fish, cypress trees, and plant life.

Forty-two color slides. Images of Homosassa Springs boat tours and drivers. Homosassa Springs has been a tourist attraction since the 1920s. The incarnation of the attraction seen in these images dates from the 1960s. (The area is now a Florida state park.) Images are of the boat drivers ( Richard Strube, Cecil Johnson and Raymond Thompson) and the facilties, springs, fish, and tourists. Recordings of these tours can be found in S 1576, box 5.

Description
Sixty-five color slides. Images are of Silver Springs boat tours and boat drivers. The springs are one of the oldest roadside attractions in Florida. Developed formally in the 1920s, boat tours have been given since the mid-1800s by local residents. Images include the boat drivers: David Faison (821-826, 850-858); Utz (827-847), Klotz (848-849, 859-867); and Jokler (868-875); as well as the boats, springs, park facilities, and tourists. Recordings of these tours can be found in S 1577.
