Tomazin played the accordion, and the Kerseys and Hart played guitar. The Jacksonville College of Music presented a program of Stephen Foster music.

Each year at the Florida Folk Festival, the Florida Folklife Program emphasized a particular culture, tradtions, or geographic area. In 1990, they emphasized celebrations of various Florida groups. including Haitians, Trinidadians, Greeks, and Jewish peoples.

Storytellers at the 1996 Florida Folk Festival (Storytelling Tent) (Sunday)

Description: 16 audio cassette recordings. Storytellers spoke between 10:00am and 5pm at the Storytelling Tent. (The Storytelling Auditorium area, which featured some of the same storytellers, was not recorded.) Wiseman, Spitzer, and Newsom served as the emcees. Several of the storytellers also sang songs. Mutima played the drums and kora during his stories; and Harshbarger used finger puppets to aid hers.

Description: Five black and white prints. P79-679 Rufus Adams of Mayo demontrating his corn shuck bottom chairs to crowds. P79-681 Queen Udell and her yo-yo quilt. Yo-yo quilt were quilts made from several circular swatches of cloth swen together. P79-682 Cabinet maker Kjell Lunestad of St. Augustine. P79-683 Reverend Thurlow Reed of Key West playing music with a conch shell. P79-684 Jay Abner in front of his restaurant in White Springs. Karl Holland of the Florida Dept. of Commerce took the photographs. He often worked for the Florida Folk Festival, in which he woudl send all unused Commerce photos to the Florida Folklife Program.

Florida Memory is a digital outreach program providing free online access to select archival records from collections housed in the State Library and Archives of Florida. Florida Memory digitizes materials that illuminate the state's history and culture.

Additional Links

Florida Memory is funded under the provisions of the Library Services and Technology Act from the Institute of Museum and Library Services. Florida's LSTA program is administered by the Department of State's Division of Library and Information Services.

For FY2023-24, the percentage of total costs for the Florida Memory program financed with federal money is 66%; the federal dollar amount to be spent on the program is $614,955. This program does not receive any non-governmental funding.
