Description
One reel to reel recording. Boltin served as emcee. Dunscombe was from Gainesville, he had been playing the saw for 50 years by 1979, and the festival for 25 years. Called the Musical Carpenter, he was a retired UF professor. Guitarist-singer Bullard was from White Springs. The Travelers were based out of Lake City, the band consisted of Skip (banjo), Claudie (Skip's father; guitar), and Buddy Harvey (Skip's cousin; bass). Buddy taught in Duval County, and Skip and his father owned a TV shop. From Branford, this was Fox's first festival performance. He played since the 1930s. In 1932 on WJBU, he was known as Eddie Fox. The Kellys were from Palatka. From Brooksville, Miller was the daughter of Ed Flemming.

One reel to reel recording. Boltin served as emcee. Battle was from Tampa. This was his fourth Festival. From St. Petersburg, Bill played guitar, and Charla played banjo and dulcimer. Guitarist-singer-storyteller Rogers was from St. Augustine. From Jacksonville, the Peyton Brothers consisted of John, Dan, Mike, and Lee. At the time, they had their own television show on Channel 12 in Jacksonville (Saturdays, 6:30pm).

One reel to reel recording. Boltin served as emcee. Bagpiper Hamilton, from Starke and a Florida Times-Union reporter, played first. The Bucksnort Barndance Band and the cloggers were both from Gainesville. Kloiber, at the time a law student at the University of Virginia, was from West Palm Beach; Gerard, a speech graduate student at the University of Tampa, was from Lake City. They met and began playing traditional folk music while students at Florida State University. Dekle was from Macclenny. McKinney and Alvarez were violinists from Starke. At the time Evelyn lived in Petersburg, New York. Popular on the folk circuit in the 1960s, she performed with late husband Bob (and later daughter Martha)as the popular folk act, the Beers Family. They were sent in 1968 by the U.S. Dept. of State on a tour on India, and once played for the White House in 1969. In 1966, they also began the popular Fox Hollow Festival in upstate New York. One reel to reel recording. Boltin served as emcee. The Collins (in their first festival performance) were from Eustis. They sang with their children: Rose, Hurbert, Ronnie, Yolanda, and Crystal. Dekle demonstrated whip cracking. Lazonby, a lawyer, was from Hawthorne. The Bucksnort Barndance Band played clogging music for the Cross Creek Cloggers -- both from Gainesville. Slavin, from Miami Beach, played old time music at his festival.

20 reel to reels. For information regarding performers, titles of songs, and other details, see individual reel descriptions. The FFP recorded the main stage (amphitheater) performances only, although performances were given throughout the park. For a listing of other performers from those stages, see the festival programs located in S 1619. The festival began on Friday evening at 7:30pm and ran through Monday (Memorial Day). Performers usually played sets of 3 to 4 songs each. Performances were presented in morning, afternoon, and evening blocks. Each artist/performer receives an individual database entry. This was the 27th Florida Folk Festival.

Jay was an insurance executive, and Peggy taught in Duval County schools. From Ft. Myers, Moore taught at Immokalee High School.
