Description
One reel to reel tape. (Copied onto C86-128.) Recording of the West Virginia Boys at a benefit for the Muscular Dystrophy association at the Ives Optimist Club. The four-piece string band consisted of leader William Duncan (mandolin/vocals), Billy Duncan, Jr (guitar, vocals), Jim Coombs (bass, vocals),and Stuart Light (banjo, vocals). They played old-style Bill Monroe tunes (Duncan played with Monroe in the 1950s). Duncan was originally from West Virginia, and moved to South Florida in 1980. For more information, see the fieldnotes on William Duncan in S 1628, Box 1, folder 10. The Dade Folk Arts Survey was conducted in 1986 by folklorists Tina Bucuvalas, Nancy Nusz and Laurie Sommers in order to identify folk arts and folk artists for the special folklife area at the 34th Annual Florida Folk Festival. The traditions are mainly Haitian, Jamaican, Mexican, Bahamian, Cuban and Jewish and cover a wide range of skills and art forms.

Description
One reel to reel recording. Boltin served as emcee. The Mt. Carmel Choir was based out of Palatka, and led by Choice Butler. Whatley was form Bell, and sang country music. Burnstine was the wife to the late bob Beers. She lived in Peterburg New York and ran the Fox Hollow Folk Festival (until 1980). Haley was her niece, and lived in Amherst, Mass. The ukulele band, of Lakeland, consisted of children between and nine and eleven years old. Led by Lois Ann Conoley. Junkanoos played calypso music, and were based in Key West. Older was from Lake Hamilton. Moore was a guitarist from Naples. Dinella and Myers were both singer-guitarists from Tampa.

One reel to reel recording. Carter was a music therapist from Tallahassee. From Dade City, Flemming was a professor at St. Leo College. Here he played with daughter Sheila Miller (guitar), Dennis Henry (banjo), Luther Rozar (gut-bucket), and Pat Rozar (vocals). Both Dinella and Myers were from Tampa. Whatley was from Bell, Florida.

One reel to reel recording. Boltin served as emcee. Cross Creek Cloggers and Bucksnort Barndance Band were from Gainesville. From Live Oak, Pure & Simple consisted of David Griswold (bass/vocals), Jerry Jackson (guitar/vocals), and Vickie Jackson (vocals/banjo). Dobbs was from Palatka. The Deckards were from Lake City, where she was a seamstress, and he worked for the Florida DOT. Drava dancers were from Tallahassee. Jones was from Gainesville. Linda Bittner (later Crider) was from Tallahassee, while Dale Crider was from Windsor. They sang songs dealing with the environment.
