Description
One audio cassette. Side two is blank. The Florida Record Project resulted in the two-album recording, Drop On Down in Florida. This was an exploration of African American musical traditions in Florida. Moses Williams was originally from Mississippi. He moved to Florida in the 1950s. He played the diddly bow, a one-string homemade musical instrument, also called a "yakkedy board." Images from this performance can be found in S 1577, box 17, folder 78 (along with more information on the diddly bow). One reel to reel recording. Boltin served as emcee. (The second half of the reel consists of the Saturday afternoon performances.) Burstine was the wife of the late bob Beers, and lived in Petersburg, New York where directed the Fox Hollow Folk Festival. Johnson was a guitarist from Gaiensville; his partner Wickman worked for the St. Augustine Preservation Board. They sang nineteenth-century songs, The Smiths were from Jackonville. Battle and Koehn were from Tampa. Muller was a dulcimer player, as well as a music instructor at the Smeinole Community College. Tillinghast was from Stone Mountain, Georgia, though raised in Florida. The Sawgrass Boys were from Hobe SOund.

Description
Seven reel-to-reel audiotapes. Recording of a conversation and impromptu performance by Brown and Williams. This was the first time these men had met. They discuss gospel, country, rock and roll, and blues music; women; segregation; other folk festivals; various jobs they worked; and performing. They perform several songs. The audio quality varies from poor to fair throughout. Copied onto audiocassettes C81-12, C81-13 and C81-14.
