Suwannee River Jamboree radio program

Suwannee River Jamboree radio program

Date
1958
Description
One reel to reel. Recorded during a rebroadcast of the Suwannee River Jamboree radio show (c. 1958-1962) in 1984. Between 1952 and 1962, the Suwannee River Jamboree show -- broadcast from Live Oak, Florida on WNER -- was Florida's largest and best known country music show. It was broadcast live three hours every Saturday night, with 30-minute versions syndicated across the Southeast. The show featured many North Florida and Southeast acts such as the Stanley Brothers (who appeared on the show between 1958 and 1962.) This undated program was rebroadcast as a way to advertise the 1984 Suwannee River Jamboree homecoming concert, held at the Stephen Foster State Folk Culture Center. The concert was held in September 1984 as a homecoming for the original radio series, and included several local bluegrass bands. A similar jamboree was held the following year.
