Monroe, a mandolin player, was known as the creator of bluegrass style of music with his band, the Bluegrass Boys (where the name for the musical genre derives from.) He was often called the Father of Bluegrass. For images of his performance, see S 1577, box 15, folder 2. His performance continued from D93-13. The second half of the tape consists of the Sunday morning program.

Description
One digital audio tape (DAT). Monroe, a mandolin player, was known as the creator of bluegrass style of music with his band, the Bluegrass Boys (where the name for the musical genre derives from.) He was often called the Father of Bluegrass. For images of his performance, see S 1577, box 15, folder 2. For his main stage performance later that evening, see D93-11/12. Based on recommendations from the Florida Folklife Council, the Secretary of State confers Florida Folk Heritage Awards annually. The awards are given to outstanding folk artists and folk culture advocates who have made long-standing contributions to the folk cultural resources of the state. Established in 1985, the program parallels the National Heritage Fellowships. The winners for 1993 were wood carver Bobby Johns, fiddler Willie Jones, guitarist-singer Gamble Rogers, and songwriters-singers Frank & Ann Thomas.

Orange Street featured Martin Johnson, Andrew Kelly, David Turner, and John Coyne. The Haleys were Bill and Susan Haley (continued on D96-46.)

Description
One reel to reel recording. Hosted by the Florida Folklife Program at the Stephen Foster Center (SFC), the McClains played as part of the Florida Folk Arts Conference that included folklorists and historians from the Library of Congress (LOC), Smithsonian Institute (SI), University of Florida, as well as throughout Florida and the South. Boltin emceed the concert. The band consisted of: Raymond K. (father), Raymond W. (son), Alice (daughter), and Ruth McClain (daughter), and Al White (son-in-law). Recordings of the rest of conference can be found on T78-301 through T78-309; and T78-311 through T78-314.
