The Writing Around Florida program
hopes to foster an appreciation of Florida's heritage by encouraging
writers to utilize the State Archives of Florida's rich and extensive
photographic collections.
|
| Their
Eyes Were Watching God |
- In support
of The Big Read’s selection of Their Eyes Were Watching God,
these photographs from the State Archives of Florida depict Zora Neale
Hurston, Lake Okeechobee, and images from the 1928 hurricane.
- Choose
one of these photographs to begin writing, or choose from one of the
categories on the left.
- Questions will
guide you to write about what you see.
- Look for clues that help you
figure out what's happening in the photograph.
- Save or print your essay.
- The Big Read is an initiative
of the National Endowment for the Arts designed to restore reading to
the center of American culture.
