General Note
The Elks Club was located on the east side of Monroe Street between Park and Call streets. It was built in 1912 for $12,480; damaged by fire on October 8, 1933; remodeled to provide rental space on the ground floor in 1939 for $35,000; turned over to Leon County who assumed the $100,000 mortgage in December 1960; remodeled and used as the County Library from 1962-1978; remodeled and used as offices in the 1980s.
The Tallahassee Fire Department provides emergency services from fires and fire hazards, as well as first response to biological, chemical and radioactive hazards. Its mission is to prevent or minimize the loss of life and property, protect the environment, assist in cooperative emergency medical services, mitigate the consequences of natural and unforeseen disasters, and provide non-emergency support services, through professional and effective delivery, to all who live, visit, work or invest in the City of Tallahassee and Leon County.
