    Biography Note

  • Mitchell was born near Birmingham in Jefferson County, Alabama on September 3, 1831. He served on the Florida Supreme Court from August 7, 1888 to January 1, 1891 and then as the 16th Governor of Florida from 1893 until 1897. Henry L. Mitchell died in Tampa on October 14, 1903 and was buried at Oaklawn Cemetery.
