Biographical Note
When the U. S. Border Patrol set up a roadblock on Key West to trap illegal immigrants and drug smugglers, irate Key Westers "seceded" from the United States. They established the "Conch Republic" complete with flag, prime minister and other pseudo-official trappings. The fantasy republic flourishes in fun, festivities and the sale of souvenirs. The pink, blue and gold flag signifies a spirit of independent and rare individuality.
