General Note
In 1936, John Ringling willed his priceless collections of art, housed in the John and Mabel Ringling Museum of Art, as well as his home, Ca'd'Zan, to the State of Florida. The state later added the Asolo Theater and the Museum of the Circus to the complex. Ca'd'Zan, fashioned in 1925-6 with a price tag of $1.5 million, is a Venetian Gothic palazzo. The Museum of Art, with three galleries and a raised bridge enclosing formal gardens, is dominated by 17th century Baroque art. It is said to be the most significant art museum in the southern U.S.
