This likely was St. Paul's Methodist Church, erected in 1858 at the northeast corner of Duval and Newman streets, site of the present First Methodist Church. St. Paul's, a frame structure of 41 feet by 60, went safely through the War Between the States and served its Methodist congregation until 1890. Jacksonville's historian, T. Frederick Davis, reports the edifice then was sold to Catholics, who sent the bell to the mission at Pablo Beach (now Jacksonville Beach) and moved the building across the street to property still owned by Catholic institutions. The building was destroyed in the 1901 fire.
