A. H. Bateman, 2nd from left, center row. A.H. Bateman married Miss Nancy Y. Allen in 1860 to whom were born 10 children. He came to Levy County in 1874 where he was a member of the Methodist Church. He was a veteran of the "Indian Wars of 1853 -55" and joined Company C, 2nd Florida Infantry during the American Civil War 1861-1865. He was wounded on July 3, 1863 at the battle of Gettysburg.
