Accompanying note: "Born in Wilmington NC 8/22/1827. Moved to Florida when a child. Apprenticed to a printer in Apalachicola, later went to Pensacola. At age 20 brought the first printing press to Jackson Co. and published the 'Florida Whig' in Marianna. Moved to Athens, GA in 1850, edited the Athens Banner. Joined the Morgan Co. Home Guards in 1860, called to service in Co. D, 3rd GA regiment, Mahone's Div., Long Street Corps, Wright's Brig. Participated in the battles of Bull Run, 1st and 2nd Manassas, Fredericksburg, Sharpsburg, Gettysburg and the Charge of Malvern Hill. Wounded at the Battle of Crater. Died 7 days later, on July 30, 1864. Buried behind 'Old Blanford Church.'"
