  • Two proof sheets with 72 black and white images (plus negatives). Hollis was born in Pleham, Georgia in 1908. After a brief period singing blues in Tennessee, he began organing and promoting gospel quartets in Florida in the 1920s. His home became the 'Hollis Hotel', a palce where gospel groups often stayed. In the emantime, he also worked as a cook. He remained active in gospel msuic throughout is life. He won the 1994 Florida Folk Heritage Award posthumously.
