Dr. John Gorrie (1803-1855) is honored for his contribution to mankind by his invention of the artificial ice-making machine.
The 1.25 acre John Gorrie Museum State Park was given to the Florida Park on 15 April 1955 by the City of Apalachicola to celebrate the inventor of air conditioning.
