Biographical Note
John J. Labie was born in Roaring Creek, Pennsylvania on 4/20/1909. He was married to Marcie B. DiCrescenzo in Alexandria Va. in April 1942. He operated a small coal mine and drove a coal truck until WWII military service in the Army Air Corps 892nd glider squadron. As a sergeant he suffered severe frost bite to his feet and legs during a blizzard and was discharged April 1943. He had a son, John in April 1945 then moved to the warmer climate of Tampa, Florida about 1948. He ultimately lost both his legs to poor circulation and gangrene. He seasonally sold Christmas trees with his family from the corner lot at 5003 MacDill Ave. He belonged to the Elks Club and the S.P.E.B.S.Q.S.A. He moved to St. Petersburg in 1960 and had another son William Joseph Labie. John J. Labie died in 1969.
