Born in Ashton, Ill in 1876. Came to Fla. in 1887, attended universities of Illinois and Indiana, ran for governor on Bull Moose Ticket in 1912, married Margaret E. Wilson in 1917, elected Florida Senate 1923, President of Senate 1935, ran for Governor 1936, bought Goodwood plantation 1925, and served in senate until his death 1939.
