General Note
Born on January 12, 1946, in Waterloo, Iowa. Joined the U.S. Navy and was a combat veteran of the Vietnam War. In 1966 married Diane Pugh but the couple divorced in 1971. Upon discharge from the Navy he began his law enforcement career and was a Yuma County deputy sheriff in Wray, Kansas until 1974 when he joined the Clear Creek Sheriff's Department in Georgetown, Colorado. Married Rebecca A. Connolly in 1975 and in 1980 they moved to South Florida. He joined the South Miami Police Department on September 28, 1981. Officer Schulz was stabbed by five juveniles (Howard Satunirno Perez, Rodney Peter Perez, Milyceth Tulia Perez, Elia Johanna Fajardo, and Gloria Ramos Acevedo) on October 15, 1987. He died on November 27, 1987. His name is inscribed on the National Law Enforcement Memorial (East Wall, Panel 27, Line 3) in Washington, D.C.
