General Note
Born on October 17, 1925 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. A high school football star, he turned down a scholarship to U.C.L.A. and joined the U.S. Marines on September 14, 1943, at the age of 18. Served in the Pacific during World War II from April 1, 1945 to June 21, 1945 then was a member of the U.S. occupation force in China from October 16, 1945 to February 25, 1946. Discharged as a Corporal on April 6, 1946 and located in Miami. Joined the North Miami Police Dept. in August of 1951 and served until January 1952 then worked as an officer in El Portal for two months in early 1952. He became a police officer in Bal Harbour Village in March of 1952. Married (his second wife) Germaine D. Brodeur on September 15, 1955. Shot and killed in the line of duty by a hotel prowler (Norman Mackiewicz) on October 31, 1957 when he drew gunfire away from a fellow officer and sacrificed his own life. His name is inscribed on the National Law Enforcement Memorial in Washington, D.C. (East Wall, Panel 63, Line 10).
