General Note
Born on June 1, 1882, in Charleston, S.C. Married to wife Hannah in 1911. Joined the Miami Beach Police Department in 1924. He was fatally injured when struck by an automobile driven by Mrs. James R. (Pearl) Devine while working at an automobile crash scene on February 1, 1936. Officer Nichols died three days from internal injuries. The name of William Nichols is inscribed (on West Wall, Panel 15, Line 15) on the National Law Enforcement Memorial in Washington, D.C.
