Freedmens' Contract, 1867

The party offending It shall be altogether optional
with the party of the first what course to persue in regard to them and
his decision shall be binding in all cases. And in case of disputes happening
amongst the hands, Employ[ees?] on the plantation they will leave it to
the decision of the Employer
In consideration where of, the said party of the first part, for himself
and his Executors, and administrators doth hereby covenant, that he will
furnish them as usual, with food 3 lb meat to the hand & a peck of meal
per week to the hand and houses during the time specified and as a compensation
for the faithful performance of Labor on the plantation the said party
of the first part agrees to give the said party of the first part, One
third of the cotten, raised and housed upon the said plantation during
the present year and One third the corn housed also Fodder Peas--Potatoes
They paying One third for Bagging and Rope to Pack said cotton, And to
take care of all stock Mules Hogs Horses Cattle &c owned by the party
of the first part and order and Quiet shall be kept on the plantation
at all times. it is also agreed that Mary and Ellen, Cook and washer on
the plantation for the party of the first part
