George Firestone (May 12, 1931 – March 2, 2012)

George Firestone passed away on March 2, 2012 in Hollywood, Florida. During a political career that spanned three decades, Firestone tirelessly advocated for the arts and for economic development in Florida.

Firestone served in the United States Army, the Florida House of Representatives (1966-1972), the Florida Senate (1972-1978) and as Florida’s Secretary of State (1978-1987).

  2. mr. firestone was my ultimate boss when i worked as fundraiser for the museum of fl history. i visited his office many times. he loved the museum. politically -he was at the top.

  3. Firestone helped form Florida’s history through his service and dedication. He has made Florida into a great state it is.

  4. George was my business partner for 25 years, we ate lunch together thousands of times, so we shared a great deal. He was fun, he wanted to make a difference, but most of all, he loved Nola.
