Lincolnville
was the heart of the black society in St. Augustine. These images show
what life was like in the 1920's. The Emancipation Day Celebration was
the most famous event that Twine photographed.
Richard Aloysius
Twine was born in St. Augustine on May 11, 1896. He was a photographer
for only five years. He took photos of Lincolnville from the year 1922
to 1927.
In 1988,
the Twine home was about to be torn down. The demolition crew found 103
glass negatives in the attic. The negatives were restored and placed in
the custody of the St. Augustine Historical Society.
