Lesson Plan Activities: ON THIS DAY: THE 1960s (USE ANY DECADE THAT THE FILM CLIP COVERS)
Objective:
Students will obtain information about a specific decade(s) through an interview process.
Grade Levels/Sunshine State Standards:
6-8 (SS.A.1.3.1-3, SS.A.6.3.2-4, SS.B.1.3.1-5, SS.A.6.2-7, LA.A.1.1.1, LA.A.1.2.3-4, LA.A.2.2.5,6,8, LA.B.1.2.1,3, LA.B.2.2.1,3,4,5, LA.C.2.2.2, LA.D. 2.2.5)
Description:
Individual activity.
Views the Florida Archives film clips and select one. Research the date and time period in which the film clip took place. Conduct and interview with a parent, relative, teacher or friend focusing on their personal history at the time the event in the film clip took place.
- Who were you? (their name at that specific time)
- Where were you? (where were they living)
- What was your age?
- Were you in grammar, middle or high school at the time of the event?
- Did you participate in any demonstrations?
- Music of the time? (favorite song, song with a political message)
- Television shows, actors, historical figures of the time?
- Any significant events in your life during that time?
- Do you remember this event?
- Additional questions that students add to personalize their interview.
After conducting their interview, students must submit their questions and answers from the interview process in written form. Use the answers obtained from the interview to create a story of that person's life during the decade that related to the film clip. Students will share their interviews with the class. Variation. Students do oral presentations. Students add music from the decade to an oral presentation.
