Lesson Plan Activities: Video Clip Newscast

Objective:
Through the use of a multimedia tool, the students will develop and present a 45 to 60 second news segment based on information obtained from viewing a Florida Archives film clip.

Students will develop a 45-60 second newscast segment based on information obtained from a film clip and additional background information supplied by the group. This newscast will be used to teach the class information about the group's chosen clip. Be creative. Examples: use of props: table, coffee mugs, etc. The use of imaginative signs: including 'breaking news' and 'top story'. Background music could also be incorporated to set the mood/feeling of the groups story.

5-8 (SS.A.5.2.1,2,4, SS.A.5.3.1-3, SS.A.6.2.1-5, SS.A.6.3.1-5, SS.B.1.2.5, SS.B.2.2.2, SS.C.1.3.1, SS.C.1.2.1,5, SS.C.2.2.1-5, LA.A.2.2.5, LA.A.2.2.6, LA.A.2.2.8, LA.B.1.2.1,3, LA.B.2.2.4-5, LA.C.1.2.3-4, LA.C.2.2.1, LA.E.1.2.1, LA.E.2.2.1)

Description:
Divide the class into small groups.

Students will log onto the Florida Memory Project website and select the online classroom link and view the film clips. Each group will select a single film clip for this activity.

5th and 6th grades can make their own props out of cardboard and other classroom materials and possibly dress as news anchors.

7th and 8th grades may actually use the school media production room to produce and tape their group's newscast.
