Timeline of the succession of the Territorial Governors from 1821 to 1844.

   
 1821

-Control of Florida is transferred from Spain to the United States.

General Andrew Jackson is appointed Governor of East and West Florida.

1822 - East and West Florida were combined into a united Territory of Florida on March 30, 1822.
-William DuVal is appointed the first civil Governor of Florida on April 17, 1822.
1829 -Andrew Jackson is elected President of the United States.
1834

- John Eaton becomes Governor of Florida.

He had previously served in the federal cabinet position of Secretary of War, but resigned over a scandal involving his wife, Margaret O'Neale.

1836

-Richard Keith Call becomes Governor of Florida.

He is later removed because of controversy with Federal authorities.

1839 -Robert Raymond Reid is appointed Governor.
1841 -Richard Keith Call is appointed Governor for the second time.
1844

-John Branch is appointed Governor of Florida.

He had previously served as Secretary of the Navy in Andrew Jackson's cabinet, but resigned in the scandal involving Margaret O'Neale, wife of John Eaton.

1845 President John Tyler on March 3, the last day of his administration, signed into law the act granting statehood to Florida (and Iowa) with its 57,921 people.
