Twenty-four year old Walter Miles Parker enlisted in the 1st Florida
Cavalry Regiment at Houston, Florida on November 23, 1861. His service
records indicate that he owned a horse worth $150 and horse equipment valued
at $10. With his regiment Parker left Florida for Tennessee in the
spring of 1862. Tragically, he soon fell ill and on May 30, 1862
he died at the Academy Hospital in Chattanooga. The young soldier’s
mother, M.A. Parker, filed a claim for his back pay in September 1863. |
