Civil War Historic Sites and Museums in Florida

• Gulf Islands National Seashore, Pensacola, Florida
  This National Park includes Santa Rosa Island and Fort Pickens.
• Castillo de San Marcos National Monument (Fort Marion), St. Augustine, Florida
  Then known as Fort Marion, the fortification was used extensively during the Civil War.
• Gamble Plantation Historic State Park, Ellenton, Florida
  Once known as the Judah P. Benjamin Memorial, this antebellum plantation housed Confederate official Benjamin on his escape at the end of the Civil War to England.
• Fort Clinch State Park, Fernandina, Florida
  A Union-controlled fort during most of the Civil War, this fort offers daily tours.
• Torreya State Park, Bristol, Florida
  The park includes the antebellum Gregory mansion as well as remnants of Confederate artillery emplacements that once overlooked the Apalachicola River
• Olustee Battlefield State Park, Lake City, Florida
  The site of the largest Civil War battle in Florida. Also houses Florida’s largest Civil War re-enactment.
• Natural Bridge Battlefield Historic State Park, Woodville, Florida
  The site of the other major battle in Florida. A re-enactment is offered each year.
• Museum of Florida History, Tallahassee, Florida
  The state museum for Florida history, it offers an exhibit on the Civil War in Florida.
• Museum of Southern History, Jacksonville, Florida
  The small museum includes extensive material on the Civil War in Florida.
• Fort Jefferson National Monument (at Dry Tortugas National Park)
  Located 70 miles from Key West, begun in 1836, the fort was not completed, though utilized to some degree by Union forces during the Civil War.
• Fort Zachary Taylor Historic State Park, Key West, Florida
  Built in 1845, the fort remained under Union control throughout the war. It was designated a National Landmark in 1973.
• Yellow Bluff Fort Historic State Park, Jacksonville, Florida
  First constructed by the Confederacy in 1862, the small fortification switched hands several times during the war.
